Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s Spring was so successful in creating a visual world that it was the inspiration for some scenes in the 1934 Cecil B. DeMille film Cleopatra. In reality, Alma-Tadema had taken the custom of children collecting flowers on May Day from Victorian England and transplanted it to ancient Rome. His romanticized painting is reproduced in all its incongruous glory in this 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle.
